SRINAGAR: Sixteen people two of them militants were killed in Kashmir valley since Friday night while the militant-sponsored 18hour strike beginning Saturday afternoon paralyzed life in the valley.
Three suspected militants one each from Baramulla Badgam and Srinagar were arrested and a Pakistan trained militant surrendered to authorities in Kupwara district an official spokesman told reporters here.
The spokesman said five bodies were found at Palapora in Anantnag district after an exchange of fire between militants and security forces.
Two of three Pakistani intruders who were sneaking into India in Ramgarh sector of Jammu region were killed by security forces. The tired fled to Pakistan the spokesman said.
He said militants shot dead one person in village Gullagam in Kupwara district.
Earlier reports: Thirteen people including four security personnel and four firemen were killed in Kashmir Jan 31 while security forces fired rockets and lobbed grenades to control continuous firing by militants in Kokernag area of south Kashmir.
Two security personnel were killed in an ambush laid by the militants at Patha Dayalgam near Kokernag on Wednesday.
