NEW DELHI (PTI): The situation in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir continued “to be difficult.”

According to the annual report of the India’s union home (interior) ministry for 199293, “a virtual proxy war” unleashed in the state by Pakistan saw a growing sophistication in the training and weaponry of the subversive elements.

A determined bid was also made to extend militant violence from the valley to the Jammu region with a view to widening the arc of violence, diverting the security forces and lending a communal color to the situation.

This situation was further aggravated by fundamentalists in an of fort to destroy the secular traditions and fabric of the Kashmir society, the report said.

The sophisticated weaponry used by the militants included remote control explosive devices and communication equipment.
