NEW DELHI: The dispute between India and Pakistan over Kashmir has thrown their cricket tour schedules for the coming year into disarray.
A senior Indian cricket board official, who did not want to be named, told Reuters that West Indies were being approached for a tour of India in case Pakistan opted out of a scheduled series due to start in January.
He said the Kashmir issue had put the Pakistan tour of India in Jeopardy.
India has already withdrawn from the lucrative champion’s cup in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, where tensions have run high between Indian and Pakistani supporters during their matches in the past.
A revoit in India’s Moslem majority Kashmir state this year has raised tensions between Islamabad and Delhi.
“We will explore the possibilities of the West Indies playing a short series with India in November this year at the ICC (International Cricket Conference) meeting,” Indian cricket board secretary Ranbir Singh said.
He added, however, that he was hopeful Pakistan would tour India next January.
