NEW DELHI: Troops in Kashmir have been placed on high alert to prevent Pak trained militants infiltration into the valley from the Azad Kashmir region. Officials say that 3000 to 5000 militants arrested by Afghan nationals are planning to sneak into the valley in a continued bid to resist the Indian security forces and prevent the Indian Government from establishing a puppet government by staged managed elections. Most of the subversives are especially trained in high altitude guerilla war tactics and are believed to be carrying equipped Stinger missiles and other sophisticated weaponry and high power telecom network besides plastic bombs and explosive materials, the sources said,

Stringent security measures had already been taken along various points and patrolling intensified to check any movement near the border.

Militants abducted a police officer Muhammad Yousuf Mir of Mir gunj police station and hanged another civilian known to be a police informer.

Meanwhile, 16 militants were killed by the security and 29 arrested along with their weapons and explosives.

The new Governor General K.V. Krishna Rao has appealed for peace and asked the Kashmiri youth to abjure violence.

The Kashmir Valley remained cut off from India for seven days from March 2128, due to landslides on the highway.
