ST, CATHARINE: Karla Homolka gets 12 years in jail for her role in the slaying of Kristen French and Leslie Mataffy. Her husband Paul Bernardo, who changed his name to Paul Jason Teale has been charged with first-degree murder in slayings, Homolka faced a possible life sentence for her part in the killings, Justice Francis Kovacs said, “while the slayings were the worst crimes she is not the worst offender” and does not deserve the maximum penalty. Homolka got 12 years for each sentence. The terms are to be served concurrently.
