By A Staff Reporter NEW YORK: Dr. Karan Singh the former ruler of Kashmir has been appointed as the new Indian Ambassador to United States diplomatic sources indicated here.

Dr. Karan Singh will take over as the Ambassador in August. He replaces Pratap Krishan Kaul the former Cabinet Secretary of India who also hails from Kashmir.

Dr. Karan Singhis the President of the Virat Hindu Samaj. He has been a Minister of Health and

earlier a Tourism Minister in the Indira Gandhi cabinet, He had served as the Sirdarariast (Governor) of Jammu and Kashmir after the state was merged into the Union of India in 1947.

Four new Consul Generals have also been announced. They are Rajinder Kumar Rai New York, Piara Lal Santoshi Chicago, Satinder Kumar Lamba San Francisco and Kanwar Singh Jasrotia Toronto.
