CHANDIGARH: Kabul Singh was unanimously elected president of the Sikh Akali party’s Longowal faction at the party’s working committee meeting here Dec 3.

His name was proposed by Tota Singh, who had recently resigned as acting president of the party.

Meanwhile, a report from Amritsar said the general secretary of the Sikh Students Federation (Manjit faction), Harminder Singh Gill, was arrested from his house early Dec3 under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act

The district police chief of Amritsar, Sanjeev Gupta, said Gill was charged with harboring and shielding militants.

The president of the federation, Manjit Singh, was similarly arrested on June 26 on the same charges and later detained under National Security Act.
