AMRITSAR: District and session judge J.S. Sidhu is also the judge of special court has ordered the discharge of 410 persons held in the operation Black Thunder case.
The discharge order has been moved on the application moves by public prosecutor D.S. Sandhu under section 321 C.R.P.F. In the application it was mentioned that the investigation report under section 301 that these persons were involved in various offenses. After examination public prosecution found that then there were no material case against 64 persons.
927 persons surrendered at the time of Operation Thunder at the Golden Temple in May 1988. The surrender was in three batches. On the first day 735 persons surrendered all were allowed to go scot free. The second batch of 160 surrendered on May 16th out of whom 128 were arrested. Third batch of 46 surrendered on May 18th and 44 were arrested. Subsequently out of 172 arrested two died, one in jail and the other in the hospital. Other sixty were discharged at a later stage.
