ISLAMABAD: The third round of Indo Pak talks at the Home Secretary level ended here today with both sides agreeing to take a series of new and concrete measures to contain terrorism, drug trafficking, smuggling and illicit crossings along the border.

The border security forces of the two countries for the first time decided to undertake simultaneous coordinated patrolling at mutually decided hours to curb unauthorized trans-border movement according to a joint Press release issued here.

The Indian Home Secretary J. A. Kalyanakrishnan, who led the 11 member delegation at the talks lasting four days, said that he was of the impression that “we will get more cooperation (from Pakistan) in dealing with problems relating to trans border crimes.”

Agreeing on cooperative arrangements to deal with fugitives, the concerned age noise of India and Pakistan will take appropriate measures in tracing out and arranging to handover to the other country wanted and absconding criminals.

The two countries also decided to combat drug trafficking and smuggling on a war footing.

Both sides saw merit in taking steps for harmonization of laws against drug trafficking so that the culprits in order to avoid harsher punishment in one country do not flee to or operate from, the other country.
