STOCKTON: California assemblyman Patrick Johnston was the featured guest at the Sunday Diwan at Stockton Gurdwara Sahib on Oct . 9, The occasion was the second anniversary of the deaths of Khalistani martyrs, Bhai Sukhdev Singh and Bhai Harpinde Singh, (Sukha and Jinda). Mr, Johnston spoke to the congregation about religious freedom and his support of assemblyman Bill Lockyer’s “Kirpan Bill”. Even though Governor Pete Wilson recently vetoed the measure, Johnston said he would join Lockyer and others in re introducing it in the next assembly session. He also spoke about balance and compromise in regards to minority nights. He said that although he had been raised as a Christian he believed that the rights of all religions were equally important and it was not right for any group, including Christians to try and impose its beliefs on others.
