JAMMU: The state administration of Kashmir has finalized a proposal to declare several areas of the valley as “disturbed” authoritative sources said.

According to top official sources the proposal is being given “finishing touches” and an announcement is likely to be made, “at any time.”

However the adviser to the state governor, Ved Marwah when asked by pressmen in the capital city of Srinagar for his comment of Reports that Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag and Kupwara are to be declared disturbed areas. He said, “Jam not aware of it.”

Official sources in Jammu said the need for the step was necessitated following a spurt in militant activity in different areas of the valley including Srinagar.

The sources said the state administration had sought clearance from the center in this regard early this month and the draft was agreed to during his visit of union home secretary Naresh Chandra to Srinagar last week.

The state administration sought this measure to enhance its powers to help in searches and raids,

The state governor Girish Chander Saxena had series of meetings with central leaders in this regard during his recent visit to Delhi earlier this month.

The sources said the blueprint of the proposal is in a ‘very advanced stage” and announcement may come at any time.”
