RANCHI(PTI): Barring sporadic incidents of stone pelting and intimidation, the dawn to dusk Jharkhand strike called by the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) in protest against the murder of its vice-president, Sudarshan Bhagat, passed off peacefully in south Bihar Sept.30.
Official sources said, AJSU activists pelted stones and damaged a trekker near a tribal hostel here. They also damaged two auto rickshaws and intimidated shopkeepers in an effort to enforce the bandh, However, no one was injured in the incidents,
Major shops, business and banking establishments remained closed and vehicles remained off the road.
Over 40 strike supporters, were rounded up from different places in Ranchi during the day, they said.
Sudarshan Bhagat died in a scuffle at a doctor’s clinic here on Tuesday, Long-distance services of private.
Buses and the Bihar Rajya State Transport Corporation (BSRTC) also remained suspended during the day. Reports received here said that the strike had brought life to stand still in the AJSU strongholds of Chaibasa , Gumla, Lohardageaand Dhanbad townships as most shops and major establishments in key localities downed their shutters.
