SAS NAGAR: In a significant development the Ropar district unit of Janata Dal has decided to withdraw party candidates for the Assembly seats following “pressure tactics” by government machinery.
Shambu said the candidates who had withdrawn were Mr. Jagir Singh Ganesh (Anandpur Sahib). Mr Balwinder Singh Chalaki (Chamkaur Sahib) and Mr Ram Pratap Singh (Nangal). Earlier Mr Shambu had alleged that he was not permitted to take the mandatory oath leading to the rejection of his poll papers of the Kharar seat.
Mr Shambu said Mr Ganesh was detained by CIA personnel on January 30 till L1pam. and Mr Balwinder Singh on February 4 till he agreed to withdraw his poll papers. He further said that a vehicle of Mr Rana Pratap Singh carrying party posters leaflets envelopes and other stationery materials was requisitioned by the authorities. An atmosphere of fear was being created and a large number of security men attached to candidates.
The president the Governor and others said government machinery in Punjab including the security forces was working band in love with the Congress.
