NEW DELHI: The opposition Janata Dal warned the Congress-I government that the party would vote against any policy that goes: against “national interests” in the budget session of parliament for safeguarding the country’s “economic freedom”.

“The battle lines are drawn. We will not support the government and we are not afraid of elections. We are prepared for any eventuality if the government fails on economic issues as we will vote irrespective of the consequences,” the party spokesman Hari Kishore. Singh told reporters at the conclusion of the two-day meeting of Dal’s national executive here.

The meeting adopted an eight point action plan calling upon the people to raise their voice for true federalism, social justice for the deprived and weaker sections, safeguarding the economic sovereignty and arresting the “rocketing price rise”.

The national executive also, adopted a resolution on economic and political issues prepared by a group headed by former Karnataka chief minister Ramakrishna hedge and another on Indian federalism authored by Orissa chief minister Biju Patnaik.
