PATNA: Senior Janata Dal leader George Fernandes Sunday admitted his party a split and said forces opposed to the Dals commitment to social justice had succeeded in breaking the organization.
Describing the expulsion of Ajit Singh and his supporters from the party as “unfortunate” Fernandes told reporters those wanting to quit, the Dal and join Congress I should go ahead “but the least that is expected of them is that they resign and seek a fresh Mandate from the people”.
Fernandes, however, asserted that the desertion by a few party MPs would not affect its long term interests as the organization had carved niche for itself among the masses.
The Janata Dal leader said a conference of Gandharan’s, socialists, Naxalites and nationalists would be held at Sewagram in Wardha on January 7 & 8 where a declaration would be made criticizing the Centers economic policies and suggesting an alternative model. for economic growth.
