NEW DELHI: Ram Poojan Patel, general of the ruling Janata Dal, secretary Wednesday resigned his post in protest against the National Front government’s attitude towards the implementation of Mandal commission recommendations for backward classes.

In a letter to party president, V.P. Singh, the copy of which was released to the press here, Patel said the formation of a cabinet committee to consider implementation of the Mandal commission recommendations had hurt feelings of the backward classes.

They, Patel said, felt that Mandal commission recommendations would be “thrown into a wastepaper basket” by the present government like the previous Cong-I regime did.
