NEW DELHI: Senior Janata Dal leader Krishan Kant said the developments in Kashmir and the attitude of Pakistan were “ominous portents” that Islamabad might force India into yet another war.

In a statement here, Kant said Pakistan appeared to be launching upon a policy of deliberate escalation of tension, which would force the Benazir government into a confrontation with India,

He said the problems in the northern states of Kashmir and Punjab were also linked to large scale international drug traffic into India and urged the National Front government to come out with full facts on the flow of drugs.

The developments in the northern border combined to create the most serious threat of disruption and disintegration that the country has faced since its independence, he said,

The government should make it Clear that this threat would be met in all it dimensions with full strength at the command of the country, he added.
