NEW YORK: Two of the five convicts in Bhajan Lal conspiracy case, S. Jasvir Singh Sandhu and S. Varinder Singh were again taken into custody by the state immigration department after their release from the jail. Mr. Sandhu and Varinder Singh were sentenced for a five year term of jail after the conclusion of the trial of this case.
The other members involved in this conspiracy case, Dr. Gurpartap Singh Birk and Sukhwinder Singh were jailed for ten to seven years respectively. They are still serving their sentences. The fifth person S. Jatinder Singh Ahluwalia was set free by the senior court on an appeal against his two year conviction by the lower court. Sandhu and Varinder were set free from the jail. They were picked up by the immigration authorities and detained in the immigration cell of New York as they had no valid papers to stay in U.S.A.
Mr. Amolak Singh, a Vice President of WSO (USA) told World Sikh News on telephone that efforts are being made to furnish the bonds of these young men to bail them out.
Earlier the Bhog of Sri Akhand path of Shri Guru Granth Sahib was performed at the residence of S. Amolak Singh at New Orleans on Sunday, September 4, 1988, where the congregation performed Ardas for the Chardri kala of these young men, S. Amolak Singh and Jatinder Singh Walia addressed the gathering. S. Amolak Singh complimented the courage and the commitment of these young men and called upon the Panth to stand united behind the cause for which they made the Supreme sacrifice.
