Fresno Bureau] FRESNO, CA: “You might be surprised how a Japanese guy could speak Punjabi so well. Why can’t I speak in Punjabi? Punjabi is spoken by humans and J is a human,” said Prof. Domio Kamikazi during his opening remarks at Fresno gurdwara. Fluent in Punjabi, pores was visiting Fresno encourage financial contributions towards Punjabi teaching program at University of California Berkeley. Prof. Kamikazi said that there were three Punjab’s in the world, one in India, another one in South all in England and third one here in California. “If Punjabi doesn’t get people’s support here in California, then where else can it,” he questioned. Domio Kamikazi is Professor in the department of South East Asian studies at the University of Osaka in Japan. He has already translated Jap Ji Sahib in Japanese language and is currently engaged in translating Sukhmani Sahib. “Japanese people need to learn more about Sikh religion and they can do it better in Japanese language, not in Punjabi,” said Kamikazi.
He also has translated Punjabi into Japanese language well versed with Sikh way of life, he said that there were only few Sikhs living in Japan and all of them were well respected in the society. He shared Sikh generosity during an earth quake that hit Japanese city of Kobe two years ago by almost 20 Sikh families who live in that city.
