NEW DELHI: The Government of India has decided to review a five year agreement with Japan for the export of high quality iron ore handled by the National Mineral Development Corporation; the agreement was reached when Mr. Arun Nehru was Commerce Minister in the V.P. Singh government. The Ministry of Steel and Mines feels that the rate of export of the iron ore was lower than the international prices. Besides, the ministry also argues that such a massive supply tor five years is ill advised because the indigenous steel industry badly needs iron ore. The action, it is feared, will affect Indo-Japan relations.
