From News Dispaches SRINAGAR: The Jamaati-i-Islami of Kashmir is unlikely to declare its allegiance to the “ideal of secularism” as stipulated under the recent amendments in the Representation of People’s Act, it is learnt. The no adherence will make the party ineligible to contest the polls.
The Jamaati-I-slami has two MLA’s in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Syed Ali Shah Geelani leader of the opposition and Abdul Rasak Mir. The Muslim United Front (MUF), which had four MLA’s, The MUF (Ansari) meanwhile is likely to abide by the regulators, it is learnt. At a meeting of the Jamaati-I-slami in Srinagar on Wednesday, most of its leaders felt that if the party abided by the declaration it will lose its “image as a party striving to establish the Islamic order”.
