CHANDIGARH: Speculation is rife here among Punjab watchers that Bhai Amrik Singh Kaulimay is alive in the custody of the police and that he may be used to get maximum information about the whereabouts of other senior Babbar Khalsa International leaders. The police hours after Bhai Kauli’s arrest at Mohali on May 31 had claimed that he had died in an encounter. A large number of Sikhs men, women and children came in a silent procession to Chandigarh to claim Bhai Kauli’s body. Instead of the body, the police handed over to the public what they termed as Bhai Kauli’s ashes. These ashes were subsequently taken to Kiratpur Saheb in a big procession for immersion into the Sutlej River. But actually, according to informed sources, it is unlike the Punjab police that it should have killed an important leader like Kauli in such haste. The death story had been circulated to lull other Babbars into believing that their colleague had died. In fact, he was tortured to get maximum information about the command setup of the B.K.I. That is why there were rumors of the arrest of Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar and many other important leaders soon after Bhai Kauli’s arrest.
