IRVINE: Harbans Singh Sraon did a marvelous job by getting the Punjab History and Culture Course started in the University of Irvine California. The extension department started the study of history and culture of north western India. Dr. Sraon is a pioneer to get Punjab Studies started at a University level.
About I2students were enrolled for the semester almost half were of Indian origin and the other half were non-Indians. They eared about culture traditions and the history of Punjab dating back to 500 B.C. The students of Indian Origin rediscovered the story of their roots and their greatness. They are proud to know of Taxila and Harappy Universities which were centers of leaning. They are proud to learn of defenders of India from invaders of the past.
At the closing ceremony of the 1st graduating class a delicious dinner banquet was arranged. Speaking at the occasion were some from the University of Irvine.
They supported the idea to continue the class. Some speakers suggested making it a credit earning class. Pritam Singh a Real Estate business owner assured the University authorities of the full moral and financial support by Sikh community here.
