NEW DELHI: In a sudden and significant move the Indian Olympic Association: (IOA) has decided to hold the elections of its office-bearers in the end of January or the first week of February 1991?

IOA President V.C. Shukla told newsmen here that a decision to this effect was taken at the general body meeting of the IOA held recently.

The notice for elections is being issued in a day or two and the elections will be held. strictly according to the constitution of the 1OA Mr Shokla added.

Mr Shukla and the office-bearers of the: IOA had taken over in August this year. The idea behind holding the elections so soon was to clear all doubts he added.

He said though we have a majority but still we thought it prudent to hold the elections to settle the issue once and for all.

The IOA chief said the Supreme Court and various other high courts of the country have recognized us and so has the government.

The IOA president further stated that though there was no bar on our functioning and no other faction exists but it was felt in the general body to hold the elections to demonstrate the majority once again in a span of just six months

Asked to elaborate what he meant by strictly according to the constitution of the 1OA Mr Shukla suid it meant that elections: would be held in Delhi where the JOA bas its registered headquarters and voting will be by show of hands as presented in the constitution.
