LUCKNOW (PTT): Four students who hijacked the Lucknow Delhi Indian airlines fight IC 436 were overpowered by passengers and two police officers at the Amausi airport in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh April 10.
The students forced the plane, which was on the way to Delhi to return to the U_P. state capital of Lucknow, Initial reports had said that there were more than 10 hi Jackers in the plane. The passengers were assisted by the senior superintendent of police Shailja Kant Mishra and SP (City) Devendra Singh Chauhan who had entered the plane as soon as it landed at the Amausi airport at around 1846 hours.
Mishra said that no explosives or arms were found with the four hijackers students of the Arts College of Lucknow University who were demanding a grant of Rs five crores for starting the Master’s Degree course in their college. They also wanted the withdrawal of Padmashri conferred on their former principal, Dr.Bisht.
The hijackers were identified as Gopla (21) of Allahabad, Anand Kumar (20) from Bihar, Biresh Tewari (25) and Umendra Ekka (27) of Andoman and Niccobar islands.
They were all taken into custody and were being interrogated.
