BANGALORE(PTI): A multimillionaire industrialist and six members of smuggler Veerappan’s gang have been arrested early June 28 by the Kamataka special task force combing the Malemahadeswara hills on the KarnatakaTamil Nadu border to nab Veerappan.
The task force commander, Shankara Bidari, told PTI that the industrialist, Obala Chettiyar, based in Mettur had business interests in many parts of Tamil Nadu. He was allegedly financing Veerappan to carry on his antisocial activities.
The arrested gang members were responsible for various offences, including the land mine blast on April 9, in which 22 persons were killed and 13 others were seriously injured.
Bidari said, the arrested members would be produced before the special prevention of Terrorist And Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court at Mysore Mon day.
