NEW DELHI (PTI): India and Moldova March 19 signed six agreements to promote cooperation in the fields of trade, economic cooperation, education, science, culture, arts, media, sports, and tourism and youth affairs.

President Snegur of Moldovia, a republic of the erstwhile Soviet Union, apprised Prime Minister, P.V.Narasimha Rao, of the situation in the commonwealth of independent states as well as the internal problems being faced by his country.

President Snegurand Rao signed the declaration on principles and directions of cooperation between the two countries.

During his meeting with the external affairs minister, Moldovan: foreign minister, Nicilac Tiu, underlined that the multiethnic nature of the Moldovan society which was similar to India’s situation.

The agreement regarding cooperation in education, science, culture, arts, mass media, sports, tourism and youth affairs, was signed by the human resource development minister, Arjun Singh, and the Moldovan deputy prime minister, M, Coscodan.

Commerce minister, Pranab Mukherjee, and Moldovan foreign minister, Nicolai Tiu, signed the agreement on trade and economic cooperation which provided for strengthening trade economic relations on principles of equality and mutual benefit.
