New Delhi: India’s decision to establish full diplomatic rations with Israel has been widely criticized by political leaders and experts in the capital. Pro Hindu BIP leader A.B. Vajpayee welcomed the decision and said that India could now play a more meaningful role in solving the west Asia crisis CPIs Chaturanan Mishra and Syed Shahabuddin of the JD said that the decision was hasty step and was neither morally nor politically defensible.
K Subrahmanyam former Director of the Institute for Defence studies and Analysis said that decision did not reflect any change in India’s west Asia policy because it was long overdue and since India had accepted the existence of Israel in 1951.
Venkateswaran Former Indian Foreign Secretary termed the decision “a sight thing did at a wrong time” and said that the Palestinians and Israelis would now expect India’s support in the west. Asian peace issue which could put India in an awkward position.
Meanwhile India’s decision to establish full diplomatic ties with Israel will mark a new chapter of Indo-Israel relations said Gloria Becher the Consul General of Israel in India. Talking on the Indian press Becher said that the peoples of the two countries had been waiting for “this historic decision” for a long time and that “all of us have to work hard to make it a success.”
