KATHMANDU (PTI): Nepalese Prime Minister Dr .Girija Prasad Koirala has said the Indians were no longer required to obtain “work permit” for working in Nepal, as was prevalent during the Panchayati period. ;
In reply to questions by a group of visiting Indian journalists Dr. Koirala said the system was no longer there. “It has become redundant now,” he declared.
About the discrimination meted out to Indian teachers, working in Nepal, the prime minister said that there was no discrimination between Indian and Nepali teachers in the Himalayan kingdom. “They are all equal and enjoying similar facilities and amenities, There is no complaints from the Indian teacher either now,” Dr.Koirala said.
At least two members belonging to the main opposition group the united communist party of Nepal (Marxist and Leninist), including Padma Ratna Tuladhar, had said
in the house of representatives (lower house) during debate on the industrial policy that work permit system was necessary to provide jobs to foreigners (including Indians), only after the Nepalese people secured employment.
Lilamani Pokhrel, leader of the United Peoples Front ‘group known i in political circles as belonging to extremist Leftist group, Said that the dissolution of the work permit system would help the Indian laborers to get jobs in the face of the pitiable conditions” of the Nepalese laborers.
