NEW DELHI: India’s Brahman dominated Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered stay of the disciplinary proceedings against policemen accused of inaction or connivance in the 1984 massacre of Sikhs in Delhi in the wake of Indira Gandhi’s murder.

The policemen have asked the court to order the authorities to supply them a copy of the enquiry report which was the basis of the action started against the officials,

The court bench consisting of P.B. Sawant and G.N. Ray said the rival arguments would be heard after four weeks on a date after Diwali festival. The officials had gone to the Supreme Court after they were rebuffed by a bench of the Delhi high court comprising judges B.N. Kirpal and P.K Bahri which Criticized the government for not being serious about giving Sikhs Justice and issuing charge-sheets to the guilty officials,

A section of the Indian media had hailed the court observations and had said that the action against the guilty officials even after eight years would restore the credibility of the Indian state.
