NEW YORK, Sept. 21, REUTER: Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi will meet President Reagan in Washington on October 30, the White House said on Monday.
It will be Gandhi’s second official visit as Prime Minister, the first was in June 1985.State Department officials said the principal issue during his talks with US.
The United States wants both India and Pakistan to sign the nuclear nonproliferation treaty.
Pakistan which press reports say is headed toward nuclear weapons capability, has said it would sign only if India did so.
India, which has exploded a nuclear device, has said the treaty is biased agianst Third World Countries developing nuclear programs for peaceful uses.
Other issues in the talks with Gandhi are likely to include civil strife in Sri Lanka where Indian troops are serving as peacekeepers of USS, technology sales to India.
