CALCUTTA, Jan, 19, ‘Reuter: Paramilitary police raided a Gurkha separatist camp in the jungles of eastern India on Tuesday, killing four guerrillas, police said.
The camp of the Gurkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), near the Indo Nepal border in the tea growing Darjeeling region was used for jungle warfare training, they said. Five other guerrillas were arrested.
The group is fighting for a separate state for the Nepali speaking Gurkhas to be carved from the existing State of West Bengal. The violence has claimed about 130 lives in the past 18 months, officials said.
Central and State Government officials have refused to accept the demand for a separate state but have offered to establish a hill council with limited autonomy.
