NEW DELHI (PTI): The 45dayold strike by pilots of the Indian airlines was Jan.24 called off following an assurance by the minister for civil aviation and tourism, Ghulam Nabi Azad, that all genuine demands of the pilots would be considered sympathetically for redressal within the “shortest possible time.”

The president of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), Capt_R_N Jalan, immediately after calling off the strike, expressed satisfaction at the assurance given by the minister.

The strike was called off after a 90meeting between the striking pilots and the minister for civil aviation at which senior members of the Indian airlines management including the chairman and managing director, L.Vasudev, was present.

The secretary of the civil aviation, S.Kanungo and the joint secretary Bnjesh Kumar assisted the minister in the talks with the pilots.

The ICPA expressed a keen desire for settlement of all the outstanding issues before Jan.26 so that the pilots may resume flying duties on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day.

Since the time left was short, the minister called upon the pilots to resume flying from the Republic Day and assured them that the government has an open mind to settle all the genuine demands.
