ANANTAPUR: Minister for Education Archaeology and Museums P.V Ranga Rao son of Prime Minister P.V Narasimha Rao has complained that Union Human Resources Minister Arjun Singh has not “responded to my three letters in regard to the steps to be taken for the renovation of the thousand pillar temple at Hanmakonda Warangal.”
Speaking to newsmen here on Oct.28 Dr.Ranga Rao expressed serious concern over the “snail’s pace” attitude of the Archaeological Survey of India in its work of preservation and protection of age old temples and monuments under its control.
“I have addressed three letters to Arjun Singh in my capacity as the minister holding the portfolio of archaeology and museums asking him to take prompt steps to renovate the thousand pillar temple of the Kakatiya period at Hanmakonda. Except a team from the Archaeological Survey of India visiting the temple a few months ago nothing has happened. What the team really has done I have not been informed.
Whether he has submitted any report to the ministry concerned is also not known” Dr.Ranga Rao lamented and said “If this is the treatment meted out to me one can imagine the fate of others After all the thousand pillar temple is in my constituency”
He however hoped that Arjun Singh would give importance to the archaeologically important things to help preserve Indias rich cultural and historical heritage.
