JAMMU: The arrest of Satwant Singh alias “‘Sitti” at R.S, Pura sector along the Indo Pak border on Wednesday has “‘revealed” the Pakistani hand in the border states of Punjab and Kashmir the Indian Govt says. The Govt has been making this charge for over three years without giving any proof other than such “flimsy” stories.
According to sources, during interrogation confessed that he worked for Punjab militants under the guidelines of field intelligence unit (FIU) of Pakistan.
Satwant was nabbed in an encounter with BSF personnel Wednesday morning while he and his accomplices were trying to cross over to India.
A big cache of arms and ammunition including 10 Ak47 assault rifles, two Chinese pistols, 40 magazines, 3250 rounds of assault rifle ammunition, 200 rounds of pistol ammunition, 20 kgs of explosives and other sophisticated weapons were seized by the BSF.
A massive manhunt has been launched to arrest the other members of Satwant’s gang who escaped under the cover of darkness.
The sources said Satwant Singh who belonged to Sultan Pind of Amritsar in Punjab, had undergone training in a training camp in Pakistan. He had been handed over to the Kashmir police Thursday for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, BSF patrolling along the border has been intensified, and the BSF soldiers had been provided some modern weapons like sniper rifles, night vision devices (NVD) and high powered torches to keep vigil on the movement of the intruders.
The sources admitted that the entire border had not been “completely” sealed and said a proposal to erect fencing like that in Punjab to check infiltration from across the border had been sent to New Delhi for approval.
