OTTAWA,(PTI): Sheila Ray, has earned the distinction of becoming the first Indian to be appointed as a provincial court judge of Canada.
Ray’s father is a Hindu and mother a Jew, At the swearing in ceremony she described Canada as “a land of opportunities, hope and promise.” She promised to bring alternatives to imprisonment and multicultural sensitivity to her court.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presence of a Hindu priest from the Vishwa Hindu temple of Richmond Hill who recited hymns from the Bhagwad Gita.
