WASHINGTON: Indian Ambassador Abid Hussain reacted sharply on April 30 to the partial suspension of Indias generalized scheme of privileges by a presidential proclamation.
It is almost untimely thing and it is wrong. Especially when action was being considered under 301, to go into this trade act of 1974 and bring something out is really surprising, very unfortunate,” he said.
While Carla Hills was telling us action under 301 is not being taken for the present and when she had actually made it very clear also that she is not going to take any action for the present, all of a sudden we find that under a different act GSP is withdrawn,” he said,
The action should not have been taken especially when the Uruguay round negotiations are going on,” Hussain said.
Therefore there is a double fault in it,” the Indian Ambassador said.
