NEW DELHI: India and the United Kingdom on Novy.15 formally ratified the bilateral Extradition Treaty which will enable India to extradite wanted militants who may be in hiding in Britain.
Although the treaty was signed last year in London by the home ministers of the two countries, it comes into effect only now with the exchange of the instruments of ratification by the two foreign ministers on Monday.
The formalities were completed when the visiting British Foreign Minister, Douglas Hird, called on External Affairs Minister Dinesh Singh on Monday morning.
After the meeting, India and the UK signed an agreement for 60 million pounds sterling in grants for projects in the environment sector.
