NEW DELHI (PTI): India last week described recent suggestion by U.S. President Bill Clinton to India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue through “Pragmatic, good faith negotiations” as a realistic approach.
Indian foreign secretary K. Srinivasan told newsmen here that “there is a great improvement in the messages (from the U.S.) on this (Kashmir issue) question.”
Clinton had made these remarks in reply to a letter of Ms, Gina Kaul, president of Kashmiri women for communal harmony. California based organization.
The U.S. president and his spokespersons had carrier stated that the views of the Kashmiri people should be taken into account in any solution to the Kashmir issue.
Kaul had written to Clinton protesting against his letter of December 27 last to Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai of Kashmiri-American Council in which he had offered to work with him (Fai) to solve the Kashmir problem.
The letter to Dr. Fai had evoked Strong protests from the Indian government and its leaders here.
