HYDERABAD: The Indian government has taken a “serious” note of “exaggerated” reports being filed on the situation in the troubled northernmost Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir by foreign journalists, especially the BBC, and has asked the state governor to monitor such reports, federal information and broadcasting minister P. Upendra said Saturday.

Talking to newsmen in this capital city of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Upendra asserted that no foreign journalist had been asked to leave the state, eyen as reports originating from Kashmir on the situation there were being sought to be presented by the foreign press in a manner that was “out of proportion” with the reality.

The minister took strong objection to the BBC calling Jammu and Kashmir as “Azad Kashmir.”

Upendra also refuted reports that there was a move by the national front government to reinstate former state chief minister or Faroog Abdullah the minister, however, said the center had sought the cooperation of Dr. Abdullah in solving the Kashmir and Jammu problem.
