NEW YORK: The Indian Govt, in an open show of its policy of persecuting Sikhs, has refilled the extradition case against S Sukhminder Singh Sandhu and S Ranjit Singh Gill. Since the deadline for the Indian Govt fell on a Saturday, Oct 27, they moved the court ‘on Monday Oct 29.
Judge Sweet who had last month thrown the case out on grounds that the Indian Govt had intentionally suppressed evidence and tried to mislead the court had felt that unless India appealed or refilled the case the two Sikh youths should be set free.
The WSO president, S Gurcharan S Dhillon, World Sikh News President Dr Gurinder S Grewal and Sikh Cultural Society Chairman, S Jagjit S Mangat had on Saturday met the two young leaders in jail. It ‘was determined then that the case if reopened would be fought to the end. | S$ GS Dhillon, Dr Grewal, S Mangat and two other local WSO leaders S Baldev Singh of New York and S Amarjit S Grewal of New Jersy had a long and detailed meeting with the attorneys, Ms Mary Pike, Mr Ronald Kuby and Mr William Kunstler. All possibilities were discussed and all options explored. Although the case was filed three days later, it came as no surprise.
Earlier in the case, an Indian handwriting expert testified that a particular piece was in the hand of S Sukhminder Singh. The same expert under oath in an Indian court testified that the handwriting was that of S Sukhdev Singh. Such are the scruples of the Govt which wants to extradite and then murder these two heroes of the Sikh nation, Dr Grewal said.
S.G.S. Dhillon stated that by the grace of God, the help of the American Sikh community and under guidance of our highly competent attorneys, we are prepared to face the challenge ‘and win this case.
