Stressed the need for more nuclear generating stations in the country {0 meet its projected annual consumption of 12,000 mw by the turn of the century.
Chatterjee, who is also member of the atomic energy commission, told reporters here in the eastern: Indian state of west Bengal on Nov.5 that India’s nuclear power program at present had an installed capacity of 1,720 mw from units located in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
He said the second unit in Gujarat would become operative soon and. work was on in full swing for construction of two 220 mm units Kamataka and two more UN its near Kota in Rajasthan.
Work on the design of 500 mw units was in an advanced stage and authorization for the construction of two 500 mw units has been, received, Chatterjee added.
