MADRAS: India is “not concerned with” the London-based Sri Lankan militant LTTE leader Sathasivam Krishnakumar alias Kittu’s plea for political asylum in the U K Indian high commissioner in U K Dr.L.M.Singhvi said here Friday.
He said asylum to the LTTE leader or the proposal to deport him were matters to be settled by U K.
Asked about India’s stand on Kittu’s plea for asylum and the British authorities’ decision to review the deportation plan he said “we have no comment to offer”
Dr.Singhvi said India was not concerned with it we have no hand in it we are not involved in the matter” he said.
The British authorities would proceed with the matter under British laws he said
Perhaps Kittu’s visitor’s visa might have expired and in the absence of valid documents for continued stay in the U K the authorities might have taken the decision on their own to deport him he said.
The U K home office in its July 30 notice of intentions to deport Kittu had told the LTTE leader that the home secretary had refused his application for political Asylum on the ground that there was no well-founded fear of persecution if he returned to Sri Lanka. He was asked to leave Britain or the country of his choice by August 7.
However on August 7U K agreed to review the order and allowed him time till August 17 to make fresh submission in support of his plea for asylum in U K.
Kittu who arrived in London on October 28, 1989 on a visitor’s visa from Colombo for treatment of his amputated leg.
