NEW DELHI (PTI): Armed with electronic ears and vocal chords, a new generation of computers now emerging from Indian research centers will listen to human speech and actually talk back in ordinary everyday languages. Scientists in the western metropolis of Bombay have developed indigenous Speech Recognition and Speech Synthesis (SSR) computer systems designed for select tasks in railway reservation and telephone query offices and in education, These speech based computers spring from an 8year long national research effort to create Indian versions of artificial intelligence systems that could help simplify the way people interact with computers.
