New York: Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan in his recently published book Pandemonium: Ethnicity and International Politics predicts that like Russia, India too is a likely candidate for fragmentation on ethnic lines. Inspite of the World wide movement towards globalization in finance and information, there are strong tendencies towards ethnic nationalism. He had raised the question of a possible blow up of the Soviet Union as early as 1979 in a letter to *Newsweek”.

About the third World’s current problems he says life was better for the residents of many former colonies before independence, some of the new states were clearly not ready for self-government, He believes that ethnic conflicts will increase in India as elsewhere with declining economic conditions leading to chaos and eventual fragmentation on ethnic basis.
