NEW DELHI (PTI): India expects the delivery of Russian cryogenic engines within two years for its space program.
Central minister Bhuynesh Chaturvedi said in the lower house Of parliament recently that conceptual studies had been undertaken regarding the possibility of sending a scientific module to dock with Russian space platform and planetary mission to Mercury via Venus.
These studies had been carried out purely for the purpose of making technical assessment and feasibility and there were no plans in the near future to undertake projects in these areas, he said.
Replying to a query whether India was willing to join Russia, Japan or European counties in jointly undertaking space programs in view of the high cost involved in this field, the minister said, the disintegration of the Soviet Union had hampered such efforts.
Cooperation with Russia could be revived at an appropriate time, the minister for state in prime minister’s office, added.
