NEW DELHI: India conveyed to the visiting envoy of the Pakistan Prime Minister its concern and frank assessment of the sudden spurt in militant activities, especially by staunch Pro-Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in North India, PTI reports.
The Pakistan envoy, Abdul Sattar, had a 45 minute meeting with the foreign secretary, S.K Singh which was followed by a working lunch.
The Siachin glacier issue and the Tulubul project came up for discussion as the Home, Defense and water resources secretaries were also present.
The tone for Indo-Pak dialogue, the first after the change of government here, was set by the external affairs Minister, Inder Kumar Gujral who said in no uncertain terms that Pakistan’s “intervention” had been very sad and was a matter of concern,
Mr. Gujral also said it might be pinpricks for India for a while. But Pakistan should see that it also had a vested interest in the era of peace and cooperation which New Delhi wanted to usher in the South Asian region.
Sattar is carrying a message from Benazir Bhutto for the Prime Minister, VP Singh.
