NEW DELHI: India and Canada in a joint statement called upon all states: Sponsoring terrorism to desist from doing so and deny financial support, use of their temporary or any other means of Support to terrorist organizations. The statement came at the conclusion of Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretian’s visit to India.
Indian Prime Minister P.V, Narasimha Rao and his Canadian counterpart re~ solved to work together with the entire international community to combat terrorism in all its forms. The two leaders agreed that special efforts should be made to strengthen the global disarmament and nonproliferation agenda. They recognized that both Canada and India share a longstanding and deep commitment to the ultimate objective of nuclear disarmament, and strongly encouraged efforts by the Conference on Disarmament (CD) in that regard. Mr, Chretian and Mr, Rao agreed on the need for effecting comprehensive reforms and modernization of the ‘United Nations with a more representative and transparent Security Council.
The two leaders: shared a common perspective on the importance of maintaining the unity of pluralistic states, based on the commitment of bows India and Canada to strengthen democracy: ‘and respect for human rights and the rich diversity of language, religion, culture and ethnicity of their two societies.
