DHAKA: Reuter: Spinner Arshad Ayub and the gifted Mohinder Amarnath guided India to a comfortable four wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup tournament on Monday. India now meets Sri Lanka in Friday’s final,
Pakistan, hit by the absence of injured Captain Javed Miandad, were all out for 142 in 42.4 overs, Ayub (five for21) taking the man-of-the-match award after returning the best ever figures by an Indian in a one-day international.
India reached 143 for six wickets with 6.2 overs to spare, Amamath (74 not out) carrying his side through a tricky spell which saw them slump from 76 for one to 116 for six.
Abdul Qadir took three wickets for 27, including that of Indian Captain Duleep Vengsarkar leg before, first ball.
But Amarnath kept his cool at the other end in the face of mounting pressure; cutting and driving anything loose to great effect.
Earlier, Pakistan wilted against Ayub’s devastating offspring attack on a wicket which turned quite appreciably.
Only openers Rameez Raja (33) and Mainul Atig (38) who put on 62 did themselves justice.
