STOCKTON , CA: Major Gurcharan Singh Sandhu and S. Ajit Singh Pannu attended a meeting of the Republican Central Committee for San Joaquin County held on Oct. 14, 1986 as representatives of Sikh youth of California, Stockton and Lodi Chapters, Mr. Phillip B. Wallace, Chairman of the Committee, appreciated the participation of the Sikh ethnic group and indicated that two members of the Sikh community could be put on the Republican Central Committee elections sometimes in February, 1987.

Mr. Pannu assured of “their continued participation before and after elections” when Mr. Wallace remarked that “we shall not let you step back once you have come in”. At the meeting several propositions recommended by the State and the Federal governments were discussed. On the question of making English as the first language in the schools in California, Mr, Pannu agreed that English as first language will prove to be a powerful instrument in making America stronger and more united.

Explaining the reasons for Their interest in the current elections, Mr. Pannu said “since we are part of this country”, we feel were should participate in every sphere of this country like any other American” Besides the Hindu majority’s oppression against minorities and denial of basic human rights to Sikhs in India are additional factors “that prompted us to educate ‘American brothers about the realities of the Sikh persecution.

Mr. Pannu also said that Mr. Ed Zschau is a promising young man in whom we see a personality that can help solve the problems of farmers and schools in California

Names of seven volunteers for work as campaign captains were given to Mr. Dan Parsons, Director of Republican campaign in Stockton area.

‘Mr. Pannu in a communication with World Sikh News thanked Major Sandhu and S. Iqbal Singh Sandhu for their cooperation and also thanked S. Harbajan Singh Bhinder and Ravinder Singh Sher gill for their “outstanding communication to unite all Sikhs together”.
